In a disturbing development, Colin Powell has come out in support of Barack Obama.
Why is this disturbing? Well, not only was Colin Powell an assumed lock for McCain due to his Republican history, he endorsed Obama based on his ability to give speeches and energize people. Not one specific policy was mentioned; not one specific qualification was mentioned; not one bit of anything besides how good he feels about Obama. It was disgusting, and it proved that Powell is all about race. It also looks rather shameful in that it, even though Powell emphatically denied that he has a desire to reenter politics, it's pretty obvious that he HAD to say that to fool the dopes who don't see this speech for what it is-Powell trying to reinvigorate his career. The speech requests must have dried up for him.

I think it has less to do with color and more to do with anger and revenge.
Personally I always found Powell's Republican credentials rather weak. He's at best a politically savvy centrist who's politically-driven hesitations and waffling in 1991 have contributed to our current situation. He continued the same as SecState.

He did split from the party over the racial preferences issue, now that I think about it, embarrassing the administration at the time.
