Opening this thread to a more in depth thinking of the last debate before the election. Thanks to youtube it can be done.
Question 1 - economic plan
McCain - 52 Billion dollar plan
includes tax cuts on capital gains
tax breaks for seniors
write offs for stock losses - among other things
Obama - 60 Billion Dollar plan
tax cuts for lower and middle income people
new tax cuts to create jobs
new spending for public works projects to create jobs
McCain first:
Short term and long term fixes ... reverse the continued decline ... housing crisis ... buy home loan mortgages. $300 Billion project.
Obama:
Admonishes the bailout, put in place assurance that tax payers get their money back.
rescue package for the middle class
4 proposals:
1- focus on jobs - end tax breaks for companies shipping jobs over seas - tax credit for jobs created in America
2 - Help families right away by providing a tax cut for middle class making 200,000.00 $ or less, allow access to IRA accounts IF crisis
3 - Get homeowners in a position where they can re-negociate their mortgages - disagrees with McCain on how to do it
4 - long term challenges - fix energy problems, healthcare system, invest in the educational system.

I think McCain makes a point about the "Joe plumber" guy that does well by working hard and building a successful business and will then get slammed disproportionately with taxes.
Obama argues - I think what he is saying essentially is that his plan is not to tax more the successful but provide tax cuts for the middle class and lower income levels.
I think Obama won this one, only because he is more clear on his plan and intention. Not because I agree with him.
