Oh, your poor cynics. You're fighting Beacon Hill's plans to stick you with $100 million in new tolls, millions more in new gas taxes. You're questioning Gov. Patrick's commitment to reform after watching him campaign hard for Dianne Wilkerson but hide under the desk in the face of scandal. You're wondering if the same genius politicians who got us into this fiscal mess are really the right guys to give more of our money to. You're even starting to wonder if voting "No" on Question 1 was a mistake.
You know what that makes you? Stupid. At least, that's what it sounds like Gov. Patrick is saying:
Enough with the “cheap shots,” said Gov. Deval Patrick, complaining again about media coverage and blaming criticism of his proposals on “cynicism.”
Patrick was at Suffolk University to mark the state’s No. 1 ranking in a national survey of economic competitiveness when he made his remarks.
“We are awash in cynicism in the commonwealth, but the cynical are not smart; they’re just pretending to be,” Patrick said
Is it just me, or did Gov. Patrick just call us dumb?
Yes, Gov. Patrick, I'll admit it. I'm not smart enough to join the "Together We Can" Club. I see a state government where billions get blown every year on bloated pensions, double-dipping government workers, unnecessary police details, billion-dollar deals for Patrick's Bio-Tech big wig buddies, etc.--and I don't see "hope and change." I see "business as usual."
I see higher taxes and higher tolls slapped on working Massachusetts families by the same folks who promised tax relief when they ran for office, and I dumb enough to wonder if they mean what they say.
I see legislators in handcuffs and big checks stuffed into the pockets of Sal DiMoney's friends, and my "cynicism" says "Hey--I'm not sure these folks are on the up-and-up."
If only I were smarter, I'd watch my taxes go up, my tolls go up, my "public servants" head off to jail and my government screw me at every turn, and I'd THANK Gov. Patrick for the fine job he's doing.
You're right, Governor. Your utter lack of leadership and the incompetence of state government are all my fault.
